Afrofuturism Panel

3/20/2018

Our primary goal was to share the concept of Afrofuturism and highlight the importance of connecting what we know about our history and the present, and connect the dots in order to reverse engineer our way to a better state of being.

We also hoped to increase your understanding of how to use Afrofuturism as a framework for critical thinking, and as an aid to taking action towards achieving better health, finances, career choices, parenting outcomes, and community development.

There were many topics covered during the discussion and the presenters did an outstanding job of sharing their expertise with you. We have included their bios and contact information in the event you would like to reach out to any of them on an individual basis.  In support of self-directed future study, many panelist provided articles and references to additional resources.

Our Panelists:

  • Moderator – Dr. LaWana “Firyali” Richmond

  • Professor Ajani Brown, SDSU

  • Caroline Collins, MFA, Doctoral Candidate, UC San Diego

  • Franklin Garrett, M.A. Ed, UC San Diego

  • Valita Jones, Ed.D, UC San Diego

  • Professor Thekima Mayasa, Mesa College, Chair Black Studies Dept.

  • Ellen Nash, Chair, BAPAC (San Diego Chapter)

For everyone who was able to attend, we thank you for your presence, your enthusiasm, and your participation. For anyone who was unable to attend this time, please join us for our next event – keep your eyes open for BSA communications

listing events and sharing updates.  In order for BSA programming to be successful, we must support, and please encourage others to support.
